ch. 37
Lynn pulled away from me, let her hand brush lightly against my face as it fell and landed on my knee. And before I could even get a word in, she smiled at me, gave my knee a squeeze and exited the car. She grabbed her suit case from the back of the car and made her way to her house.
It happened in such a flash that I barely had time to register the whole thing. Barely had time to stop her, ask her why? When? How?
“What the fuck.” I muttered to myself as I started the car back up.
I drove half way down the block before it finally hit me and I quickly made a u-turn. I sped back to Lynn’s house, parked inconveniently in front of her driveway and marched up to her door step.
I banged on the door until Lynn answered, surprised to see me.
“We need to talk.” I said, in a commanding voice.
“Right now?” Lynn kept her voice down, probably since her mother was home.
“Yes. Right now. You can’t just…you can’t just do that and leave and, I mean, what the hell Lynn?” I started to fumble with my words, in hopes that Lynn would attempt to help me out.
“Okay, okay. Calm down. Damn, Alyx. You don’t have to freak out.” She stepped outside and closed the door behind her.
“Well, I am. I am freaking out. And you need to explain yourself.” I looked into Lynn’s eyes, trying to make sure she wasn’t going to feed me a line to get me to leave her alone. I know she hated confrontations.
She didn’t back down though. She stared directly back at me, something vulnerable lingering in her eyes.
“You’re a real idiot you know that.” She said frankly.
“And you’re a liar. I guess that makes us even.” I said back, quickly.
We stood for a moment, both our arms crossed, each having a grin on our faces. Except, where would we go from here?
