ch. 2
“Is that all you’re packing?”
Lynn came down the stairs lugging her giant suitcase with her. She saw that all I had was one duffel bag, and of course, had to interject. She had always been that way with me, picky and a little bossy. This was the nature of our relationship since we were fifteen. I didn’t like her too much back then, and even now there were moments.
“I don’t plan on being there for very long.” I looked at the trunk, fairly empty with just my bag and a few pieces of trash I missed while cleaning. “Where’s Kaila?”
“Bathroom, you know, small bladder.” Lynn came over and threw her suitcase into the trunk. Another piece added. Soon it would be a complete picture, a portrait of a road trip I had never intended to take.
“Al, seriously, that’s all you’re taking?” Lynn would not let up.
“Yes. That is all I’m taking. Get over it.”
“Are you sure you’re car is going to make it? It broke down last time we–”
“Lynn, if you’re going to keep this up we’re going to have a really long ride. Why don’t you save it, okay?” I snapped, which was one of the first times I had ever done so at Lynn. I usually let her antics pass, as I didn’t often see her. It was strange because we had all went to High School together, and somehow managed to all get into and go to the same college. But once we arrived, I found it unnecessary to see Lynn. It was just too bad she lived with Kaila.
She was the one I was in love with.
